Disposal Options for Syringes and Other Sharps

Wood County Hospital Sharps Container Program:

Wood County Hospital provides a sharps container and disposal free of charge through the laboratory. This program is provided for the private sector only.  All professionals and businesses are regulated under state and federal infectious waste laws and may not participate.

Contact the Wood County Hospital Environmental Services Director at 419-354-8923 to set up an appointment to enroll in this program.  For more details, visit www.woodcountyhospital.org

Other Options:

  • Use a needle destruction device that clips the needle and allows you to throw the plunger in the garbage.
  • Use a sharps collection container (some offer a mail back label) or a stiff plastic container (laundry detergent bottle), sealed and marked before placing in garbage.
